If You’re Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands!

Choosing happy, how simple is that? Deliberate happiness can lead to countless physical, mental and emotional rewards both now and in the future.

The simple truth is how we focus our attention and how we intentionally direct the flow of energy can alter our brain’s activity and therefore our behavior and emotion. People that exude happiness are magnetic. Other people want to be around them. They seem to have more luck and there’s no secret to that. A positive attitude and nature attracts more opportunity and therefore more success. Feeling happy releases dopamine and serotonin which dilates the learning centers of our brains to higher levels. Happiness is self reinforcing.

Here are a few ways to increase your happiness.

  1. Laugh – simple as that. Laughing out loud feels great and it’s contagious.

  2. Exercise – it’s hard to be in a grumpy mood when you are exercising.

  3. Spend time with a child. The innocence, curiosity and playfulness of a child is a great way to simply be happy yourself.

  4. Get lots of rest – be at your best.

  5. Take time for yourself. Be sure you have time for simple enjoyment instead of work – work – work.

  6. Embrace your social network. Friends bring happiness. Friends are a joy.

  7. Be a good person. Good people have lots of reason to be happy. They can look at themselves in the mirror and know they contribute to others and the world around them.

  8. Start a gratitude journal. Jot down the many, many things you have to be grateful for and know you can refer to them to generate a smile.

  9. Take time to be silly. Being silly is great!

  10. Find a place that is just yours. A place you can be completely at peace and alone. A place for reflection. This can be your happy place.

  11. Set a goal and accomplish it. Now be proud and grateful.

  12. Always have something to look forward to.

And… as the big pink dinosaur, says, “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands. If you’re happy and you know it then your face will surely show it. If you’re happy and you know it… clap your hands!”
